“You have brains in your head, feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose” – Dr. Seus
Or another saying I like to refer to:
“Ten 2-letter words to live by: IF IT IS TO BE, IT IS UP TO ME.”
Both of these quotes place the responsibility for pursuing our goals and our dreams squarely in our hands. So often the words and opinions of others, self-doubt and/or circumstances are where we go for an excuse, a reason why we are not going where we want, why we are not doing what we want or why we are not being who we want to be. My next statement may offend some but it must be said, an excuse is just that, an excuse! Of course, there can be some challenging circumstances, some limitations, some powerful people that create obstacles or otherwise get in our way BUT we must not allow them to stop us, nor must we allow ourselves to quit on our dreams.
If we break down the word responsibility into two – first response, then ability – we can ask ourselves what our ability is to respond to any given challenge. If we realize we don’t have what we need to overcome then we can put in the work to develop the necessary response. As human beings our capacity to develop new skills, new knowledge, new attitudes, new mindsets, new character traits, new understanding, is limitless. We must never underestimate our growth potential nor our ability. This is a call to action, you have a purpose that only you can carry out, only you know what it is and only you know what needs to be done in order for you to fulfill it.
No more excuses, steer yourself in the direction you know you should go!
